Convocation Ceremony For Blind Trainees

The Sabah Society For The Blind – Sandakan held a Convocation Ceremony for its visually impaired trainees at Taman Cahaya on 26/8/2018. The function was officiated by the Minister of Peoples’ Health and Wellbeings YB Wong Tien Fatt who presented graduation certificates to 20 visually impaired trainees who have completed their one year training at Taman Cahaya. The event was attended by more than 300 invited guests. Among the other invited guests were eye specialist Dr Chiang of Duchess of Kent Hospital, Ms Rosidah (K2 manager & donor of mineral water for the function), Mr Ransah (Warisan Libaran Division Head) and Mr James Aw (a donor for the function who also distributed ang pows to the blind graduated trainees). White canes were also distributed to the graduated blind trainees by the Society’s President Datuk Rosalind Chew.

 The blind at Taman Cahaya also celebrated the Hari Raya together with YB Wong and invited guests with cakes cuttings and food refreshment.

 During the function, YB Wong Tien Fatt on the spot approved a fund of RM10,000.00 to the Society to help cover the expenses of the convocation function as well as to assist the Society’s to purchase  needy white canes and water purifier/dispenser for Taman Cahaya’s use.

YB Wong also took the liberty to visit the PPR houses at Taman Cahaya’s Village Home occupied by the ex-trainees and gave his assurance to assist the Society’s in giving more and better housing accommodation to the less fortunate visually handicapped in our community.
